A BJCP-Sanctioned Homebrew Competition

Hosted by BUV Homebrew Club

The Nebraska Shootout is a BJCP-sanctioned homebrew competition hosted by BUV (Brewer Unterstützungs Verein), a homebrew club of the Omaha German-American Society. The competition welcomes brewers from across the region and is made possible by the dedication of our judges, stewards, volunteers, and sponsors.

This page will serve as the official source for competition information, registration details, and updates as we approach the event.

Important Dates

  • Competition & Registration Opens: April 1, 2026
    (Beer entries, judges, and stewards)
  • Registration Closes: July 11, 2026
  • Entry Drop-Off Deadline: July 18, 2026

Entry Information (Brewers)

  • Entry Fee: $10 per entry
  • Competition Platform: BrewingCompetitions.com
  • BJCP Sanctioned: Yes

Packaging Requirements

  • 12–16.9 oz bottles of any type
  • Swing-top bottles are allowed
  • Cans are accepted
  • Raised lettering or markings are permitted as long as they do not identify the brewer

Number of Bottles

  • Three bottles per entry
    This allows for category judging and Best of Show consideration.

Drop-Off & Shipping

Planned drop-off locations are currently being finalized and are expected to include:

  • Omaha (Patriot Brewing Co., pending confirmation)
  • Lincoln (location TBD, possibly Boiler Brewing Co.)
  • Grand Island (location TBD)

If Patriot Brewing Co. is confirmed, shipping may be allowed to that location.
Final drop-off and shipping instructions will be posted once locations are confirmed.

Judges & Stewards

Judges and stewards are a critical part of the Nebraska Shootout, and we are grateful for your support.

  • Registration Opens: April 1, 2026
  • Judge Type: BJCP-sanctioned judging
  • Stewards: No experience required

A formal Call for Judges will be announced when registration opens.

Judge & Steward Perks

  • Food provided during the competition
  • Gift bags (subject to sponsorship support)
  • Steward Best of Show award planned

Awards & Prizes

  • Medals:
    • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category
  • Best of Show:
    • Beer Best of Show awards
    • Steward Best of Show award (specialty item planned)

Additional prizes for category winners and raffles may be offered depending on sponsorships and donations.

The Nebraska Shootout is supported by generous donations and sponsors.

  • Steve and Tim are coordinating medal procurement
  • Donation and sponsorship outreach will begin in earnest in April
  • Based on sponsorship levels, additional prizes and judge/steward gifts may be offered
